Texas talent

The game has changed, of course, but I haven't seen a big man so focused
on dominating the game defensively in all the years I've watched
basketball. He's the ultimate team player. Oden will be very good
offensively, but he's absolutely dedicated to and dominant defensively.
That's why I compare him to Russell. I know it's high praise, but I'm
blown away by the guy.
I predict he'll come in and put up relatively modest stats -- 14 and 10
or something like that -- and Durant will average 20 a night out of the
shoot, but Oden's team will improve by 20-30 games or more. I love
Durant, but Oden makes you a contender for 15 years.

I've thought that, too, about UT talent. They were more athletic and
less BB wise. They were epitomized by Clack, the guy we drafted--a
leaper defenseman without a smooth game. But TJ Ford and Durant are
different, I think. Durant is a Nowitski but smoother, more fluid. I
don't see him as a PF but an SF with great length and reach. But I
would think that Oden is the franchise guy, tho' attaining the level of
Russ would be like that identical snowflakes thing--it could be but who
will ever see it?
Not sure I want to see last night's game. It must have been an awful
second half. Good to notice Perk showing well, however. Cheers, Gene
