Half the man he though the was

No way Doc comes back. They have two options -- fire him or extend him.
They can't let him go into the final year of his contract as a lame
duck. That's just flushing the season before it starts. Since they'd be
insane to extend him, I have to believe he'll be fired (or step down to
"spend more time with his family"). He's a train wreck.

Unfortunately, firing Doc is the easy part. The hard part is finding a
good coach.

In response to the below quotes, I'll echo in half what's being touted
about
our youngins. Yes, offensively, they have made great strides, but
defensively they are still the challenged, limited, 'what do I do now'
members of the Lost World they were months ago when this team was
healthy.
Once again a team without balance - this more then anything has been the
reason for the losing streak - we've made up the points lost with each
body
that went down and we're still losing. Turnovers are also a culprit,
but
overall they can't stop anyone from scoring at any point - every game
the
opponent is shooting in the 60 percentile range if not for the whole
game
then for large chunks of it.

If the Celtics are to become good they MUST either trade some of this
offensive talent for defensive talent or draft either well-rounded or
defensive-able players. Preferably at the small forward and/or power
forward/center position. (or at present course draft an actual two way
player).

As to Douglas' point - the injuries have given Doc a free pass to next
year
- no way he gets fired. He MAY resign, but he ain't getting fired or
"asked
to resign". It sucks, and it stinks, and it sucks, but it's pretty much
a
foregone conclusion - injuries saved his neck as has the increased
ability
by the youngins mentioned in the cut & pasted posts below.

At this point, then, let him sit for another month. Let Kandi and Powe
play
center with Al. This season's shot. Might this be time for a coaching
change, if there is to be one? I commented flippantly a few days ago
that
this is going to be a long training camp, but that's really what it is.
If
we're going to fire Doc, maybe now's the time.

At least to me, it's clear that we are seeing the cream rise in the last
few
games. We have three excellent players on this nine man squad. They
can
play
in the league at a very high level. Add to that group the injured Tony
Allen
and we have quite a corps of young talent. The best thing about it is
that
one
is a big, one a point and one a wing. I don't think it's a case of
someone
will
get the points; I think each could well become an all-star. That's the
plus
of
having these injuries at this time.

Indeed, Gerald, Al, and Rajon have shown that they can play, if not win
yet,
against the big boys. And they still have a lot to learn.
Meanwhile, our NYC "point guard" is cementing his long-term role as a
defensively challenged spot shooter and occasional penetrator off the
bench,
the reason he became third-string at Portland.
Perk's play of late is also of concern. Hopefully, it's just the
combination
of
injuries and getting his rhythm back.
