If the Celtics fall during a season, do they make any noise?

This is one of the main motivators (IMHO) of the current regime in their
decision making process - public perception. Instead of focusing on the
easiest manner in which to garner attention from the media (winning); the GM
and ownership group instead look at focus group results in the target
demographic (which I'm not sure they have an accurate handle on either).

Is the target demographic of the Celtics that coveted 18-25 age group? To
the owners I think it is, but in reality is that the consumer group most
likely to stick with the Celtics over time during losing seasons? I would
assume the average age of this posting site is NOT in that demographic
whatsoever (I know that asking direct age questions is taboo, but I think I
can make a generalization safely). And doesn't this site, and others like
it, probably most likely represent the most "loyal" demographic to be
coveted by the Celtics especially in the lean times?

So to tie this back to the injury (ies), this perception problem I think the
Celtics have also pertains to their treatment of injuries and other news
items. In the short attention span, "bimbo summit" (Lohan, Spears, Hilton
to the uninitiated) news cycle currently embraced by most media outlets any
releases by the Celtics can be of the throwaway variety without too much
fear of being called on it since the term "yesterday's news" has become the
very forgetful definition of how we treat information these days. Add in the
"we want to be like the Patriots" issue thinking their hiding of injuries in
any way relates to the NFL (which is set up 100% on gambling line accuracy
vs anything else) and you have a perfectly (in their mind) valid method of
being obtuse in providing injury info.

In closing, unless the owners actually realize that a winning product is the
quickest method in which to generate "buzz" and media interest in ALL
demographics they will continue to churn out easily forgettable,
non-newsworthy events, reports, etc. Such change would also garner that
coveted interest you mention in regards to Brady or Ortiz for their stars as
well. Winning cures all ills some great sport figure once said (I forget
whom) - even those of public opinion and media interest.

I agree. Why say anything at all? That was dumb. Just say the nature of
the injury requires evaluation over time and give updates as you go
along. No one cares about the Celtics anyway, if you go by the coverage
in the Boston media. I don't think there would be angry mobs demanding
answers the way there would be if David Ortiz or Tom Brady were in
Pierce's shoes (or protective boot, as it may be).
