I wonder if Don Ho plays SF?

Aloha! I have returned from the grueling experience of a Hawaii business
trip and found that while some things seemed to have changed, it's mostly
the same story with our beloved Cs. The same lack of a consistent style of
play, full out running game one night, slow down halfcourt the next. Same
inconsistent rotations with one night seeing Olowakandi another Powe and
another heaping helpins of Scalabrine. Same up/down play from the kids.

I don't think that we've really learned all that much different despite
Pierce's absence. The offensive emergence of Allen and Jefferson are
somewhat inevitable when 30 shots a game become available. (40-50 shots when
Wally was out as well). Their defensive accomplishments seem to rank about
where they were pre-Pierce injury if compared to "by minute" statistics. And
while Green has solidified his "offensive savant" hype somewhat, albeit also
inconsistent, his defense remains of the helter-skelter Walter McCarty
Memorial type.

So while some faint inklings of further success seem to lie just beyond the
team's grasp - is that the case or is it merely the absence of the star
making the contributions inflated by that absence?

I also can't read the tea leaves about Doc's future either. The injury
(ies) gives him a ready made, and media friendly pass on the mounting loses
being within his span of control. To me the bottom line question for his
future ties inexorably to my question above as his main charge has been to
get these kids NBA ready to consistently contribute night after night. I
STILL don't think he's done that.

And with the trade deadline fast approaching our focus is now the largest
question - do we play for this year in a piss-poor Atlantic or do we "sell
high" and make someone else better to position ourselves for the future
(again)? This, to me, is the Danny Ainge measuring stick - this trade
deadline. Given our position of potentially "picking high" come draft time
WHILE AT THE SAME TIME near enough to playoffs to sneak in we would seem to
the layman to be able to make a multitude of different types of deals either
way! If a GM can't make a team better in this unique circumstance I don't
know if he ever could.

So lots to examine - even for a sun addled fan such as myself. Mahalo
indeed.
