>>Today Ainge is making trades to gain talent to use
as chips in future trades with a few flyers/gambles
thrown in. If the talent fits in, fine. Otherwise
they can be traded for other talent who may fit.
Better to have "some" talent to make that future trade
then continue to wait for the right guy to become
available and not have talent to trade for him.

Yeah, Jim, but to assume "fit" you have to assume
there's an overarching plan, and Danny has not
indicated he has one. It's been nearly 4 years since
Ainge came in to turn this thing around, and I for one
have no idea whether he's about to

a) trade Green and Jefferson while their value is
highest, bring in a proven vet like Gasol and try to
make a run for it with a core of Pierce, Gasol and a
healthy Wally, or

b) trade Pierce for a second lotto pick, hope they get
insanely lucky and build a core around Jefferson,
Oden/Durant and whatever other "chips" Ainge can
assemble.

The crazy thing is, I can't even decide what he SHOULD
do. This team is such a botched assortment of young
"potential" and veteran players that none of the
knowledgeable people on this list can even agree on
whether Pierce will be past his prime when/if Green
matures, Allen returns to health, Rondo discovers a
jump shot, Perkins gets a new pair of orthotic shoes
... am I leaving anyone out?

Another way of asking this question is, at what point
to you stop collecting "chips" and start assembling a
winning basketball team?
