Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me

No one in the league is going to trade a lottery ticket this year. No
one. So if West is holding out for that, he won't trade Gasol.

I think he's in the middle of the typical posturing with the Bulls.
Either it gets done with Chicago, or it probably won't get done. I could
see Ainge offering a big package, but West's clear preference for the
Chicago kids leads me to believe Ainge's offer isn't that enticing.

Maybe we'll be surprised, but I just don't see much happening at this
deadline. Everyone is eyeing the draft.

Ainge could pull the trigger today, but he doesn't because every
discussion
begins with "you have to give us this year's 1st round draft choice pick
unprotected" in addition to everything else.

The Gasol deal would be DONE (for Green, Jefferson & Ratliff plus a
lotto
protected pick is my understanding of our offer), but Memphis is
standing
firm that the deal must include this years' pick unprotected (it's also
why
Chicago hasn't pulled the trigger yet - they're demanding the Knicks
pick
AND Chicago's own pick this year paired with players).

Perhaps that's overrating our draftees, but at the same time that's
fleecing
this team big time. Maybe for one or the other (the pick or the kids)
the
deal makes sense for the Celtics, otherwise they give away their ENTIRE
future for one player.

Gasol is the second all-star to place along with Pierce - I make no
argument
to the contrary. I would trade Jefferson, Green and a 2008 pick
unprotected
for him, but once the discussion includes both our "present" future in
Jefferson and Green and our "future" future in this year's pick (a draft
considered to be the strongest in years) that's too much.

There can be balance between win now and sustain for later - there HAS
to
be!

Would anyone trade both this year's pick and our youth for Gasol? Does
the
rest of this season mean THAT much?

-------

But how can he pull the trigger on such a deal when he is unwilling to
trade
Pierce and has so overrated his beloved children... i.e. his draftees? -
Egg
