The team with the most points wins?  Really??
   
  I think what he was trying to understand was if the team was improving.  And yes, sometimes an inferior team wins.  That's called an upset, but you probably knew that form the 2000 or so games you've watched.

"Hanging with good teams, and coming up just a little short" means
nothing, *nothing*, in the NBA. I've watched almost two thousand
pro games, and superior teams constantly let inferior teams hang
around. Then they beat them.

The only thing that matters in an NBA game is who has more points
at the buzzer.
