A very exciting game to watch, just a disappointing
ending.
Someone said that Billups "had is way with Rondo."
Maybe so, in the second half, but I would submit that
Rondo "had his way" with Billups in the first half.
Chauncey couldn't guard him. I don't buy that Billups'
hot second half is prime evidence that we need a vet
point guard. I'm not arguing that we don't need a vet
pg, but the youth and inexperience differential was
not the reason CB scored so much, it was the size and
strength diffential that allowed Billups to overwhelm
RR in the post. Matchups like that are simply going to
occur. We just have to hope our guy's advantage
(quickness, speed, penetration) outweighs their guy's
advantage (post ups) next time. We could bring in a
vet, but if that vet is, say, Brevin Knight, Billups
still abuses us in the post.
It was size, not youth, that's all I'm saying.
It was nice to have Ray Allen back. This is the Ray
Allen I thought we'd see. Tough, clutch shots and
money in the bank when he's open. Same for Garnett.
When Pierce got the last shot on the baseline, I
thought it looked like he had a seam to the basket,
but instead took the fade away. When I saw him shoot
that, my immediate thought was "Why didn't he take the
layup and possible three-point play, or at least draw
a foul?" My second thought was, why not give a pump
fake, knowing the shot was going to be contested and
take your two free throws. Not a smart move by PP.
Then Chauncey does exactly that on the other end.
Arrggh,
Nathan A.
