I watched a portion of the Miami game just to find out why we were dominating them so much. The first notion was our interior defense. Their bigs just couldn't get good positions or good shots. Everything was contested. When they made their fourth quarter run, it came from a series of threes bunched around some Celtic weariness and mistakes. KG, at the four, has freedom to roam a little and intimidate in the paint. The second notion seems to be that our guards are working hard at staying in front of their man, slowing the penetration moves. Stout defense has a way of demoralizing the opposition. As noted earlier about the Cleveland game, Ilgauskas stopped trying to get into the paint when Davis convinced him it would be painful. At times we don't make the most of the offensive board opportunities. We also have stopped pushing the ball upcourt, as Doc mentioned in the press. I hope, after a few inconsistent games (albeit wins), we can take our surge into the West
coast trip. That should be worth staying up for this year. Cheers, Gene
