Kim, didn't I read somewhere that Red said he'd retire his number if he 
acceded gracefully to the trade?  I amy be wrong, but that's what I 
remember.

Of course, what choice did Ed have but to accede?  Players weren't 
overly endowed with inalienable rights back then.

Er, no. He was actually one of the best big men of his day and one of
the coveted stars of the team before that deal.
