i think pp is in the same class as nique and drexler,
but he needs to help this team shine to move to the
hof level.
as for retiring his jersey, that's something that will
play out over time. i think if he retires a celtic,
they'll have no choice but to retire it, as he'll own
most of the team's scoring records, if not all.

Not yet. Regardless of the numbers, he's not nearly
the player
Dominique
or Drexler were, and he doesn't have the rings Worthy
has. Dominique
didn't get in on his first opportunity.
It's tough when you don't have the championships and
sometimes tough
even when you do. Dennis Johnson was a winner who also
put up great
numbers and played both ends of the floor as well as
any guard of his
era, but he can't get in the Hall. So Pierce has a
long way to go.
The other interesting question is whether or not his
number goes in the
rafters. There was a time when I would have said no --
not unless he
wins a title. But with Reggie's number up there, and
the current
infatuation with Pierce from Wyc, my guess is it goes
up there. If he
wins a title, that's fine. But I loved the way the
Celtics did it in
the
past -- gaudy numbers weren't what mattered. It was
all about winning
the championship. You had to do that to reach the
rafters. I think that
sent a great message.
