Kandi

Yeah, you're right - the C's would have to sweeten the
deal w/ a pick because nobody would otherwise want
Kandi for more than the vet's minimum. But if he got,
say, a one-year deal that would save the other team a
year of someone's contract, that might be an
enticement. Or, Atlanta has two PGs (Johnson and Lue)
whose deals are set to expire at the end of the season
- so if they'd do a sign-and-trade for one year of
Kandi, they wouldn't be hurting themselves cap-wise,
and could pick up a pick. Maybe it's a dumb idea (or
even against the rules). Just was wondering if that
would let the Cs accept a contract in a trade they
wouldn't otherwise be able to accommodate if they were
to, say, simply try to trade a pick for Lue.
>>I believe we do have those rights --- but as I
understand it, they're
worthless for a guy like Kandi.
Teams generally work out sign-and-trade's with teams
that have a
player's Bird rights to (a) offer more money (teams
signing a player
with Bird rights, even if they're signed&traded, can I
believe give
10% raises, as opposed to 8% normally) or (b) offer
more years (6 vs.
5 in normal contracts).
If anyone wants Olowokandi they don't want to give him
more than what
we gave Pollard -- a one year deal at the vet min.
