Kandi's contract?

Assuming the Celtics have Early Bird rights on Kandi -
and possibly even Bird Rights, if they came over with
him from Minnesota - does that give us the right to
re-sign him and then trade him for another player
whose salary we otherwise might not be able to fit
under the cap?

Granted, the market for Olowokandi might not be real
high. But if there's a moderately priced, veteran PG
we want out there - say, Kevin Ollie, Anthony Carter
or one of Atlanta's guys - and a team could be enticed
to deal him for Kandi and a pick, would this mechanism
work? Otherwise, I don't see us having a lot of trade
options, and we might be left having to offer the
vet's minimum to a Darrick Martin or Troy Hudson.
