Another team to compare to -- since these are inexact comparisons at best
-- is the 2003-04 MIN team, that many believe could have won the NBA title
if not for Cassell re=injuring his back.

Starting 5
----------
Garnett (BOS 07) < Garnett (MIN 04)
R. Allen > Cassell
Pierce >> Spreewell
Rondo < Hassell
Perkins > Olowokandi

Bench
-----
House = Fred Hoiberg
Scal = Mark Madsen
Powe < Gary Trent
Davis = Oliver Miller
[Mutombo] = E. Johnson

T. Allen > Szczerbiak (both were inj.)

Explanation
------------
Garnett (B v.07) v. Garnett (M v.04) -- SLIGHT EDGE: Garnett v.04--
Garnett in MIN 04 (the NBA MVP) was better but he'll be playing with
better #2 and #3 players which will help close some of that gap. Plus
he'll be playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

R. Allen v. Cassell -- EDGE: Allen -- Play similar roles as scoring
distributors and leaders on the court. Cassell was 2 years older than the
soon-to-be-collecting Social Security Ray Allen.

Pierce v. Sprewell -- BIG EDGE: Pierce -- Spree was a better defender, but
Pierce iss significantly better than Spree just on his own. Throw in
better guys, more comfortable in BOS, and a renewed vigor and it's a big
edge.

Rondo v. Hassell -- EDGE: Hassell, but closer than you'd think -- While
they play diff. positions they will play somewhat similar roles. Both are
very good defenders for their positions and Rondo is as good if not a
better reboundr despite being 6-1 to Hassell's 6-5. Hassell is a better
shooter, Rondo a better passer. By midseason this could be even.

Perk v. Olowokandi -- EDGE: Perk -- Johnson was really the starter but
Perk's better than either him or Olowo.

House v. Hoiberg -- EVEN -- Both are shooters, Hoiberg's a better shooter
and rebounder, House a better defender. House is 3 years younger than
Hoiberg was

Scal v. Madsen -- EVEN -- their career numbers are almost identical. This
is sort of like asking which you'd prefer gonhorea or syphillis.

Powe v. Trent -- SLIGHT EDGE: Trent --- again, closer than you'd think.
Both are undersized bangers. Trent had an experience edge. Again by the
end of this year this might be even.

Davis v. Oliver Miller -- EVEN -- This was Miller's last gasp in the NBA,
and I don't think it's unrealistic to think Davis can match his 2.5
pts/2.5 reb/1 asst a game. Again, the similarities here are pretty eerie
-- if Davis could match Miller's play his first 4 seasons (9 pts, 6 reb, 2
asst, 2 blocks, 1 steal) we've got another 2nd round steal.

Mutombo v. E. Johnson -- EVEN -- hasn't happened, but if we add Mutombo
we'll match MIN's ancient center.

T. Allen v. Szczerbiak -- EDGE: Allen -- Both were injured but Allen will
contribute more than Wally did that year in 28 gms off the bench. More
than likely T. Allen will contribute as much as Wally did even when
healthy.
