A key insight, Mark (the one with ten thumbs). Even Scalabrine might appear to be an NBA player when paired with Garnett. It's common to dismiss Rondo as a pg far from being ready, but I don't get that impression from watching all the games. Ryan was laboring to throw every possible negative into his article and stretched it, imo. It's the kind of post that most of us write out and then delete because it's too overstated. He could use a little "on the other hand" in his approach.

The Spurs' cast of cast-offs that back up their big three all seem to fit their roles well and make them into a contending team. That's our challenge. House is one small step in the direction of making this new reality work. Maybe Manuel, plus my two nominees for the surprise player of the year--Davis and Wallace. Cheers, Gene (aka Gino)

Why can a guy look great on the Suns and Spurs, but lost on the Bobcats or
Hawks? Because they're playing with better talent. Basketball is a team
game, just ask a guy like Jacque Vaughn who was cast off by teams much
worse than the Spurs.
