ryan's column

I just re-read it.... here's the problem I have with it. It's not that
it's stupendously negative and assumes the worst, i can live with that
(though not by much).

It's that he -- and this is his right/job as a columnist -- just pokes
holes in the C's as currently constituted. Nothing he's saying is news:
The C's shouldn't be corronated just yet. Yeah fine, we get it.

But if Ryan's such a BBall genius, can't he give us something more than "I
would have liked to keep Ryan Gomes"? He can't name 5 players out there
that *would* enable this team to compete with DET, CHI and CLE. Or is it,
as we're led by his column to believe that it's hopeless?

And news flash to Bob Ryan, it may not be a 3-on-3 league but neither do
guys 4-12 play each other w/o the rest of their team. You mean KG, Ray
Allen and Pierce will have no effect on Rondo, Perk, Powe and Scal? C'mon
that's ridiculous.

Why can a guy look great on the Suns and Spurs, but lost on the Bobcats or
Hawks? Because they're playing with better talent. Basketball is a team
game, just ask a guy like Jacque Vaughn who was cast off by teams much
worse than the Spurs.

I don't mind if Ryan disagrees with this move, but this column reads a lot
more like lazy Stephen A. Smith potshots than the BBall analysis that Ryan
supposedly has staked his reputation on.

Thanks Ryan, but I've read more nuanced and insightful stuff on
CelticsBlog. I maintain that there is a middle ground between Chicken
Little and Pollyana.
