Lord, I'm turning into Patrick Ryan ... ;)
Sorry, Steve O, multiple sources including the Globe
now reporting they've signed Manuel and House to
one-year deals.

After thinking about it, I don't have a huge problem
with this, because we definitely need a big backcourt
defender, at least with Tony out. The Globe says this
kid averaged just under 10 ppg in the D-League. But as
long as he knows his job is just to come in and
defend, he'll probably be all right. Will get a bunch
of whistles blown, but could be a poor man's
Bowen/Buckner type.
I also will grant you the value of House as a
designated shooter/instant offense type, but I still
can't believe we're not gonna get another
PG/distributor. Shira on the Globe blog says "While no
additional moves are imminent, Ainge also said the
Celtics 'were not done yet.'" Clearly at this point
what they really need is another big, so maybe they're
going the bargain basement route with the guards to
free up money for a big man. Least that's what I'm
hoping.
Shira did have a disturbing note in one of her other
stories today: "don't look for Boston to spend its
midlevel exception (worth $5.4 million) or anything
but a portion of its biannual exception (worth almost
$2 million)." There's almost no way they're going to
get a PJ Brown or Brian Skinner for that kind of chump
change. I'll be gravely disappointed if ownership
skimps out to save a few bucks. Especially since they
sold $2M worth of tickets yesterday alone.
The C's don't need to be thinking in terms of a
three-year window, they need to commit to winning a
championship right now.
>>>>>Where are we getting this news by the way? I find
it hard to believe they'd be using a roster spot on
Jackie Manuel; a training camp invite seems more
likely.
