Actually, I am the one who is guilty of being obtuse. Or perhaps less than direct.
What I wanted to point out was that your reliance on tired absolutisms was no less silly than the one that posted the absolutism about the American myth.
In other news, Patriot boards are on fire about the acquisition of Randy Moss. No less a gentleman there than one Sebastian Telfair, yet he is being welcomed openly across all the boards.

Ummm, no, and not even relevant to the argument of the American Dream being a
myth either.
"Will I be labeled a traitor and sent to Gitmo if I point out that the most
popular sport on the planet is
football (not bastardized rugby that is played in the U.S.) and that the
most recognized athletes
on the planet came from the slums of Rio or the north african ghetto in
Marseilles or blue collar East
London?" - Asterix99
Um, no - although one of the nicest, sweetest people I know in the entire
world is currently defending some
of the inmates at Gitmo if you'd like to discuss that also irrelevant point
to the initial argument I can
have her chime in as she could discuss it with much more insight then either
of us. As to your second
allegation I suppose in an obtuse way you could say I was saying the american
"sports" were somehow
superior (which I wasn't) versus the opportunity to reach class levels
heretofore unknown through contracts
of hundreds of millions of dollars.
"Do the Kenyans and Ethiopians who own the Boston Marathon come from
"American modeled" systems?"
Asterix99
Exceptions to every rule. Interesting that the opportunity to win those
marathons would be where exactly if
the American Dream didn't exist and was in fact a myth? In this case we'll
label it the "Spartan Dream"
to be fair.
Also, I think you are referring to Maslow (rather than Lazlo's) hierarchy of
needs. He basically
argued that we take care of our own basic needs above all. I tend to agree
with those that
have challenged his thinking as simplistic and not globally applicable.
Maslow. Thank you for the correction. My Human Communication 101 teacher
would be
very disappointed in me.
