Free agents? What are free agents??? We are the Boston Celtics, we don't
need no stinking free agents!! Words to live by from Danny Ainge!!

I actually love Danny, but he is a terrible GM when it comes to free
agents!!! Troy

Subject: Free agent targets?

I know most are focused on the draft, after all that is what the C's have
been playing? for since Tony and Pierce went down.

It makes sense but looking past this years train wreck I am feeling excited
about a real turnaround for next year. The possibility to add a 1-5 pick to
our young but maturing team (Al, Rondo, Green, Perk) along with hopefully a
healthy return of Allen and Wally plus solid blue collar role guys like West
and Gomes and of course Pierce; I feel this is a playoff team next year
without major tinkering.

But IMHO to make the C's a serious contender even next year would mean
spending some serious cash in FA to bring on-board a good playoff tested vet
and I think the C's have the right amount of talent for the first time in
recent memory that spending money for the right FA will actually yield
success. To me the one position that a quality starting vet could instantly
make the C's a contender for at least the EC title is the PG position. I
don't mean an over the hill G Payton type signing but one that still has 2-3
years in the tank that a Rhondo can compliment off the bench till he is
ready for prime time. For me that target is C. Billups (not sure he is a FA
but I've read that he is). Billups playing with Pierce, Allen and Wally to
go along with Al, Perk, Rookie X, with West, Gomes, Rhondo and Green would
make our team tougher on both ends of the floor plus add another player that
can spread the floor in the half court (playoff offense). It would also
serve to make Pierce
happy thus more on board, plus take off the pressure for who ever our draft
pick will be to be a savior or bust instead of a great piece to a
championship caliber team.

If not Billups who would a realistic target be that can make us a contender?

Go C's
