How could I possibly write a long post only to forget the most momentous
news of the weekend? We're signing Doc Rivers to an extension!!!!

If there was ever a "team in transition" from all youth, need a nurturing,
fuzzy on the details, player coach to a discipline centered, fundamentals,
Xs and Os coach this Celtic team would be it. This exactly fits the Bill
Fitch/KC Jones corollary (only in reverse). Doc has gotten the team through
the lean years and as much as it pains me to say - considering the
circumstances he's done an admirable job in the development aspect; although
I have to admit Clifford Ray deserves the lion's share of the credit in the
maturation of the bigs - I think Doc has ALSO ruined the PGs from Delonte to
Telfair making them all something they're not (specifically why is Telfair a
SG now? Jerking around Delonte and making Rondo NOT a penetrator/push the
ball up the floor guy and extolling him to shoot all the damn time?)

I'll throw out an interesting name - Mike Fratello??? He seems like a guy
that has players play to their strengths (has coached up tempo and slow down
teams depending on his player's abilities) instead of making them fit his
"system", he's on the outs, and has a record of getting teams into playoffs
(albeit not to titles). Sure, he's not the guy to get them a banner, but he
can set them up to get there nicely in 2-3 years (esp. if they get
Oden/Durant). Wouldn't he be a nice "next step" guy or am I totally wrong
here?
