I don't think it has anything to do with whether they are truthful or not.  But what is undeniable is that they are "piling on" a down team.  I think Payton and Antoine show far less character in this whole dust-up than Wyc or Danny.

Right, there is absolutely no truth to what Payton and Toine are saying. Our
infinitely wise and righteous ownership/management know what they're doing. It's
not like veterans are important to winning in the NBA or anything; a bunch kids,
many of whom didn't play college ball, can do just fine. The examples of this
are . . . nonexistent?

I am no fan of Toine or Payton. And they may indeed be bitter (though South
Beach and winning a championship surely must be preferable to this malaise,
where it snows in April and where fours years of Ainge's intrepid leadership has
resulted in all our hopes resting on winning the lottery. ) But they're right -
even if the Celtics win the lottery, there's a decent chance we wouldn't make
the playoffs unless some competent veterans are brought in, let alone do
anything there if we did make it.
