I wasn't saying that at all.
In some cases, even current championship contenders lose out on free agents
because other teams offer more money. It has nothing to do with current
state of affairs, but on amount of greenbacks - it all depends on the
player, his agent, his age/status, and if he's driven by money, a ring,
climate, social life, friends, what have you. I'm not blind to the fact
that there are some players that will play for reasons OTHER then money, but
by and large that is the decision maker in probably 90% of the cases (30
teams X 15 players = 450 * .10 = 45 players league wide - that sounds about
right for a WAG)
So throw out the "we suck" mantra because I don't believe it for a moment.
As with life, luck, planning, execution - all of it played a role in a
statistically poor season which, to everyone's credit somehow kept a place
as probably the second most talked about pro sport in Boston during both the
Patriots and Red Sox usual "high points" (post season and hot
stove/pre-season respectively). Now obviously the Bruins equally poor
season had a lot to do with that, but usually those two sports (football and
baseball) are always #1 and 2 no matter what during recent history.
So in fact that tells me that either management is SO good at spin that they
have everyone fooled and we do in actuality define the word you so
vehemently typed in your post, or in fact we're NOT mindless cattle and do
in fact see some hope, some excitement and some promise that this is not the
beginning of the plunge to the depth, but in fact the bottom with nowhere to
go but up.

Yeah, we get it - we suck. Do you need to kill EVERY moment of pride and
joy a fan has this season? Even if it's denial, when it's all you have,
it's better than nothing. Just ask the Clippers. - Frederick
