Optimism Part 2

On Telfair, things have really played out to where we are not putting
too all our eggs in one basket, given that Rondo and Delonte also seem
capable. I remember that when Banks came back from injury, Delonte
stepped up his game too. The competition can only improve the position
and the team; also, Delonte's shortcomings as a point guard seem to be
addressed with the acquisitions.
The big man situation is now where everyone wished it to be. The pups
leading the way with some veteran back up. It's time to put up or
shutup. We now will get to see what we really have as big men. I'm
confident. Once you commit totally to Perk and Jeff, the league
(refs/etc) will back you up and they will get a chance to blossom.

My optimism is tempered by the fact that we've put so much faith in
Telfair. Why? What indication do we have that he'll be anything more
than he was in Portland?
I just think we took a strength (point guard -- Delonte) and made it a
question mark. I'd be much more comfortable with Delonte as the starter
and Rondo taking Orien Greene's minutes as the backup. We're immediately
better if that were the case.
Meanwhile, we haven't done anything yet to address the really glaring
weakness -- the frontcourt. We're once again counting on Big Al, and
that's a place I didn't want to be again. When I say that, I mean I
didn't want the whole season hinging on him, not that I've given up on
him. He's just a shaky bet at this point.

A coach that applies each in direct opposition to what other coaches do
to
exploit such dichotomy. Add to that we draft just low enough to usually
miss the guys that are both high IQ and athletic (again my biggest
reason
why I hated the draft - we could've had one of those guys!!!)
***********************
i don't know patrick, Brandon Roy -- the guy who would have been
available to
us at 7 in the draft fits
that bill, IMO. It sounds like there are legit concerns about his knee,
long
term, but he's both
athleticaly talented and high basketball IQ.
if i had to do it all over again, would i have taken him over Telfair +
2nd
rounder + 1 year less of Raef?
I don't know, seems like a wash at worst, marginal advantage us at best.
its interesting to see the relative lack of optimism. i UNDERSTAND it
,,, i
really do, but maybe i'm just a
glass half-full guy. or deluded :)
