I knew that Red had received the honor and saw the photos, but had no 
idea what specifically it was for.  I looked it up, and here is the 
quoted description:

The United States Navy Memorial Foundation presents a Lone Sailor 
Award to Sea Service Veterans who have distinguished themselves, 
drawing upon their Sea Service experience to become successful, and 
who exemplify the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment, in 
their careers and their lives.
