Random thoughts of Red

Reading the tributes, and the "post-life analysis", I find many
Celtics fans thoughts are mirroring my own in some cases, then my
musings wander pretty far afield.

It's just like Red to get himself "ejected" from life because he
despised the idea of the Celtics dancers.

Always the team first, only Red would manage to pass away between the
last preseason game and the start of the regular season, so as not to
distract from game night preparations.

Red would also manage to go on a night where there'll be an extra
hour to remember his life and legacy--and we needed every minute of
it and more.

If the Celtics are going to dedicate a season to him, it had damn
well better be a CHAMPIONSHIP season.

Walter Brown is starting a team and needs a coach. He doesn't need
to ask who to get, this time. And Johnny Most will be there to
broadcast it all.

I still love thinking about the game where Red--by then a GM--came
roaring out of the stands onto the court to defend his team. Not a
damn thing had changed since he first arrived in town.

If some idiot ever gets the urge to rename the Boston Garden again,
let it be the Auerbach Arena.

He personified a quote made by Harry Chapin: "It's amazing what you
can accomplish if you're not afraid to look like a horse's ass in the
process." Red accomplished a great deal, and was never afraid.

Bill Russell has lost his best friend.

"And the day will come when,
Stooped with Age and Steeped with Life,
I must bring my days to an end.
Let me not weep over times of sadness,
Nor curse the battles lost,
Nor mourn the tasks unfinished.
Rather, let me dance joyful in happiness,
Roar my celebration in Victory,
Revel in the work well done.
Should you ask, "Would you do this again?"
Let me not vacillate, picking and choosing portions.
I will dare to do it all, live my whole life, again.
For the most crushing agonies of life's defeats
Was my strength's source to achieve life's victories."
