Alden noted:
<<If Tony Allen's real first name is Anthony, Celtics could field an
all-square team:
P2 Paul Pierce
G2 Gerald Green
R2 Rajon Rondo
A2 Anthony Allen
A2 Akin Akingbala>>
And that lineup - including its rationale- would have made more sense
than a lineup including Rondo/Telfair/Ray/Allen. Or, for that matter, any
lineup including Scalabrine.
I'm trying not to fall in love with Rondo too fast. At this rate, I don't
think I'll be able to hold out past the first quarter of the season. For
those of you who didn't see the Cleveland or Toronto games, the Dee Brown
in second half of '91 comparison isn't far off the mark. Rondo's speed
and quickness are comparable to Dee's pre-injury explosiveness. But
that's not the most exciting aspect of Rondo's game. He has real point
guard skills. He throws passes his teammates can catch. He plays under
control (1 TO vs. Toronto in a game marred by approximately 500,000 TOs).
He hustles. At times, he's everywhere; at other times, he's simply in the
right place. I keep trying to remind myself that he's supposed to be a
terrible shooter (both from outside and from the line), but that hasn't
been the case. I can't wait to see him in a real game with West, Pierce,
and Gomes for an extended period.
I'm excited by the possibility of a "thinning the herd" trade, although I
don't want to see West, Green, or Gomes leave as a result. I wonder if
Danny could structure something with multiple teams so that Secaucus Red
ends up back with the Nets.
