Everybody had a shot at guarding Nelson. Telfair was, as always, atrocious defensively; he doesn't even try half the time. He's been quite good at penetrating for layups, and has been hitting his jumper, but his defense, or lack thereof, is costing us many of these games. I believe that's why he was replaced by Rondo at the end of the game. Unfortunately, Rondo didn't do much better. In the last few positions, the problem was automatic switching on Magic's pick-and-roll, with Gomes ending up with Nelson and getting burned. According to Rivers, they were instructed NOT to do that. Who knows if that's true, and if it is, I don't know why Doc is unable to convey such simple instructions effectively. Gomes and Rondo don't look retarded to me.
Delonte might have done the best job, relatively speaking, on his old team mate, but I'm not too sure of that.
This makes me yearn for the bad old days of Harter defense.
