athletes and guns

One thing that annoyed me when I learned it some years back--and I
don't know if this is still true today--was that in Massachusetts, at
least , the ONLY option a private citizen has for carrying a gun is
to have a concealed permit.

In Pierce's case, I can't blame him for having the weapon, and am
gratified he got the license. But I know for a fact, it's FAR too
easy to buy a handgun without a license, and there's a good chance a
number of athletes aren't properly licensed. Let's face it, some of
these guys aren't rocket scientists. Remember the guy on the Trail
Blazers who thought it was a good idea to smuggle weed past the
airport drug-sniffing dogs by wrapping it in tinfoil?

Incidentally, some years ago, Massachusetts law ALSO allowed you to
carry a sword, as long as it's sheathed to your back, and not at your
side. This came in very handy one time.
