athletes and guns

I'm sure it has a lot to do with image. However, many of these guys do
come from some very dangerous parts of America and even if they're in
no *real* danger now, the idea of having a gun as protection and a
form of power must be very appealing.

Has anyone ever done an analysis of the economic backgrounds of
players compared to gun ownership? I'm willing to bet rowers and
soccer players don't carry weapons.
