Pete Carrill

Let's not get too carried away yet on this Ainge-ownership friction
thing. We have a couple of unnamed sources popping up on obscure web
sites confirming that there "could be" friction ... come on. I'm sure
there have been disagreements. There isn't a front office in the league
that doesn't have disagreements. But let's not turn this into more than
it deserves.

As for Pete Carrill, I'd like to have him but he doesn't sound like what
they're looking for. Doc said he wants a couple of guys who can work
well with young players and skill development. That jibes with what I've
heard about his staff -- basically, that they were terrible. Anyway,
Carrill would be a nice addition, but he's not an instructional coach.
He's a system coach. They need a system coach too (especially defensive
system), but it looks like we're stuck with Tony Brown and Dave Wohl.

While I like Pete Carrill and thought he should have been hired as a
second
in command for the dysfunctional O'Brien, how exactly does Pete Carrill
help
this team's glaring weakness, that being defense?

As well, a Pete Carrill designed Princeton offense, would be quite
offensive
to the I-dominate-the-ball offense the captain has grown accustomed to
and
approves of.

On another note, perhaps, if the rumors are true, the source of friction
between Ainge and the ownership centers around Ainge wanting to trade
Grousbeck's binky? If Ainge did make overtures to Portland last season
regarding trading Pierce for Van Exel and the lottery pick so that he
could
nab Chris Paul perhaps it was the ownership, in their infinite
basketball
wisdom, that shot it down. This would create friction.
