I have been lurking on the AL J vs J.O. discussion.

I would love to have O'Neil on the C's Period. If all it involved was trading Al, along with some role/costly player (LaFrentz?) plus a player like Gomes (who i love) or this year's #1, I'd go for it (no trading of Green or Allen please).... but I agree w/Kim I just dont see such a trade happening unless it was part of a bigger multi-team type deal.

I must admit I like the thinking that brings in a complimentary PF to Perks at Center, that plays defense, can be a go-to scorer facing the basket and a good rebounder (O'Neil). Such a player at the PF position would open the floor for our outside gunners (West, Pierce, Wally) along w/ opening the floor for our athletic wing players (Allen & Green) to run and penetrate. Question is how many PFs that fit that description are on the market or in the Draft that can be had w/out trading half our team's better players?

My opinion is we wait on Jefferson to at least the mid point next year or training camp if he shows up in the same shape or frame of mind (scorer/no defense) as last year. I think he is a good kid, who after all, would be a college Jr going into next year. He is already a very good, NBA ready, natural low post scorer that needs to toughen up and dedicate himself to being a decent NBA defensive player if he wants to be part of a rotation that not only scores to win but also one that can be on the floor in crunch time, capable of winning w/defense. This year I think he got the message, I am wanting to see if he comes to camp ready to rock.

  Go C's!!

PS: I would like to hear from folks who we might wind up with at the 7-10 position assuming Danny goes after BPA.

I interrupt my reading of this discussion to state my firm belief that Al is better than O'Neal right now. Sure, if they were on the same team, you would start O'Neal but you would see Al doing things (mainly on offense) that JO can't do. Do any of you remember the games when Al overwhelmed JO last year, or again early this year? Al is better offensively than JO is defensively right now. Sure Al has to fill in the gaps of his defensive game, but we're looking at a superior talent in Al and that can be seen already--the preceding is an opinion based on watching Al eat JO's lunch in various games. Furthermore, Al has the desire that JO doesn't seem to be able to call upon. Sometimes, I think you trade potential for actual, but not Al's level of potential. Let's recall this thread next December and note Al's progress. I've seen enough to crown him. Now, back to reading your interesting discussion. Gene
