This sounds about as objective as a White House press release and
actually surpasses the official mouthpiece of the Boston Celtics, Shira
Springer, as a Stalinist Russia-style panegyric to the courageous and
inerrant leadership of our beloved Pa...err, ball club. These guys are
either raking in the green from the Green (am I naive in even doubting
this?), or have Tommy Heinsohn ghost-writing these encomia.
To me, what transpired yesterday comes down to this:
1) The C's owners saved a nice bundle by dumping Raef's contract.
2) We added a headcase's headcase (who excelled even among the
Jailblazers), who's 5-10, can't shoot, and was beaten out by Steve
Blake, as our next PG. I'm sure Pierce will be delighted to watch
Starbury's cousin dribble out the clock while attempting to pull that
sick And1 move. Such a talent of course could not be found in this
year's draft at any pick and will be a fantastic role model for our
young corps.
3) The little gangsta wannabe may or may not be moved in an attempt to
obtain another gangsta wannabe, an aging 5-10 ballhog who's not a PG,
doesn't shoot very well, and requires a team to be constructed around
him to rebound his misses and cover up size mismatches due to playing
him at shooting guard. On the plus side, between AI and Pierce, we could
be averaging 50 FTs per game! What fun!!!
4) We also acquired another non-shooting 5-10 PG, who was clearly
worthy of the 7th pick, but luckily slid right into Danny's warm
embrace at 21. This always happens to us: we either snatch a high
lottery pick who inexplicably slides, or trade our pick for a guy who's
better than anybody in the draft. Imagine how the Celtics would be doing
if we didn't have such incredible luck!
5) Lastly, we got some guy who was a good, if quite undersized, PF in
college, when he had healthy knees, and who duplicates what Gomes does.
For the city of Boston, this means that the Mayah will have to initiate
another gun buyback program for Telfair/Iverson and their sizeable
posses, except instead of Target gift cards, they will have to give out
rebates to Cadillac dealerships and shops that specialize in
ghetto-izing Escalades. And I will have to watch out for even more
recklessly driven jumbo SUVs while commuting around the North Station on
game nights.
