Ford's Blog - best athletes

If we're looking for a point guard -- and I'm still not in any way
convinced drafting a point guard is a good idea -- I'd rather trade down
and get Jordan Farmar from UCLA. I think he's undervalued right now.
He's experienced, a winner, performed well in the clutch, a true point
guard who can run a team, push the ball, hit the outside shot and he
knows how to defend coming from that UCLA system. He also has good
enough size and tested as a phenomenal athlete at the pre-draft camp. I
like him.
I also like what I've seen of Sergio Rodriguez, but assume he's a
terrible defender.
If we could do something with Orlando picking up 11 and 15 and take Sene
and Farmar, I'd be pretty excited.
Mark

I kinda like Rondo personally. Sure he has a few aspects of his game to
improve on, but he can be a pure terror defensively despite his size.
Offensively, he can get the ball to the open man, but I saw him finish
in traffic once when I thought he had no chance to get to the rim. He
has an ability to get where he needs to go. If he has good court
vision, he'd be a big asset IMHO. Perhaps those who have seen him
plenty of times have a better handle on him though.

I'm not especially concerned about Marcus Williams'
lack of athleticism as measured by these tests. I'm
much more impressed by the fact that he's averaged 8
apg the past two years against top-flight competition,
with a better than 2:1 assist:turnover ratio.
It's not like the C's are chock-full of athletes to
begin with. This team needs a Steve Nash more than a
Chauncey Billups. (I wonder how Nash's athleticism
scores were, anyway? And for that matter, Jason Kidd's
not the most athletic guy out there.)
Not that I'm necessarily putting Williams in the class
of those guys, but I'd rather add a pure PG than an
undersized, ultra-athletic combo guard like Foye ...
whose shooting percentages, incidentally, aren't any
better than Williams'.
