I definitely understand your way of thinking on this Steve.
However, I'm not a big fan of Pierce's style of game so that also plays into
my thinking about the desire to trade him. Wing players that need to
dominate the ball don't win championships unless they are exceptional
talents and IMO Pierce is not. I think he's good enough to make a bad team
mediocre and as I've said, mediocrity is the kiss of death in the NBA. As
well, IMO his style of play is going to hamper the development of the other
players precisely because he does need to dominate the ball. Will we really
find out if Delonte West can be an impact point guard with Pierce on the
roster? Can Boston truly take advantage of a pure point guard and fast
break basketball when Pierce needs to touch the ball as much as he does? I
don't think so. I think the same thing can be said for the other positions
on the court.
But these are good points you make and there is no one way of getting it
done.
