I can't think of Red(d)ick without remembering the great MSU shooter, Respert, who teamed with Snow; he contracted a bad stomach illness which shortened his career. Anyway, I saw him in the tournament and he was the slickest, most confident shooter you could want. But, at 6' 1" and not a point--what do you do? And there's the rub with Redick: he may be 6' 3", but he's slight, not a top defender; so, if he's the guy they must be convinced he's the scoring dynamo who could give 15-20 minutes of sheer misery to the defense. I would be ok with it in that he is certainly the best at what he does--fly around and hit 25 foot shots. And he clearly has great bb instincts and savy. Could he be Bill Sharman or Sam Jones redux?
Still, either that means that G Money Green is not seen as our instant offense for next year, or that Green could be used for trade bait, or that Green is going to be thrown in the mix with another pure shooter.
It may also mean that adding another combo guard is insurance for the injury-prone West, or for the uncertainties related to Tony Allen and/or Wallly's knees. Or, it may be that we can't have enough players who can score.
At first glance, I prefer the Redick option to that of the Spanish pg, but that's because I would want to see the young kid first. I would be floored if we took the youngster at #7. Don't you know Ainge would love two picks in the 12-17 range?
So, what would we do if we drafted at #7 and then wanted the kid at, say, #17? Trade next year's #1 for him? Plus ?? I do think there must be a little urgency to get the difference maker and win 48 games. Is that Big Al or G Money or someone new??
I still don't want to go into the season without a rebounding hoss behind Perk and Al.
Cheers, Gene
