The big difference in minor league baseball is that  there really isn't 
competition with college, at least not directly.  Most  college players go into the 
minors.
    Another is that there are so many baseball minors, so  the travel isn't 
bad.  And that's a bind for the NBA.  The D Celtics  won't play the D Lakers 
because the D team won't want top fly them  cross-country.
     The solution, it seems is to have D league in  divisions, paralleling 
the NBA:  the D Celtics (Providence) can play the D  Knicks (Trenton), the D 
76ers (Harrisburg) and the like.  No trips over 350  miles or so, so they can 
uses buses or even (shudder) fly  coach.
