the problem with rookie points

< AMEN!!!! I've stopped posting this because I come across as maniacally
obsessed with Delonte. I can't believe how Celtic fandom has somehow
collectively accepted this notion that our greatest need is at point
guard. > - Berry

Maybe because our greatest need IS at point guard? Surely Danny has
been on a mission to publicize the point guard position as our team's #1
need. I have to hope he learned something from the Banks draft and
thus his public admiration of Marcus Williams is but a smokescreen.

It sure would be nice if Tyrus Thomas fell to us, and don't count
out our trading down for Splitter or a scoring guard. Because the
last thing we need is yet another rookie point guard ... especially
the troubled Williams whose extensive character issues are
eerily similar to those Ainge has reiterated in the past he wants
no part of. Nor does Rivers.

Last week, the Celts kicked off their workouts with ten points
guards, most of them combo guards.

NAME (present overall ranking from among ten mock draft sites)
Foye (#7)
Williams (#8)
Collins (#15)
Rondo (#19)
Douby (#20)
Brown (#38)
Barea (#40)
Blalock (#57)
Stinson (#60)
Krauser (n/a)

Of the ten, Foye looked the best, and sleeper Shannon Brown
(#38) ate Williams' lunch. Of course the BIG question is whether
Ainge is looking for a backup for West or a starter. I have a feeling
that although he appreciates many aspects of West's game, he is
still searching for the ultimate starter at PG.

We will now be working out BIGS O'Bryant (ranked #9), Sheldon
Williams (ranked #10), Simmons (ranked #14), and Saer Sene
(ranked #23). We would probably like to work out and interview
Thomas (who has recently slipped to #4 behind Aldridge, Bargnani,
and Morrision) but apparently his agent will only allow him to
demonstrate his skills for the top three drafting teams (now maybe
four?). Isn't that the reason Gerald Green fell to us last year
because his agent would allow him only specific type workouts for
a few select teams? The agents rule ... ship 'em all off to Abu
Ghraib and release them only after the draft.
