A second opinion?

I am changing my opinion. I have been arguing for a long time that we
need to trade for a high draft pick next year since the draft is so
deep, but with the team as it is right now, we may get that high draft
pick the old fashioned way, by earning it.

I like Doc Chestnutt, I find I agree more then disagree with his points,
and
while his writing style is very in your face I can tolerate it in small
enough doses and due to frequency (lack thereof in his case) it's really
become must reading to counterpoint the rampant homerism elsewhere.
That
said, while I have been very critical of this draft, I'm never in the
"let's
tank" mindset. There are no guarantees in life, but something very close
is
that losing as a philosophy begets one thing - more losses over a
greater
period of time.
Especially given that we are a young, impressionable team if we were to
purposely try to take the "two steps back in hope of one leap forward"
mindset the potential of ruining our "assets" attitudes, work ethics,
and
signability/tradeability is off the charts. While the NBA does have some
value in "reclamation" projects as trade bait, it's minimal and all too
often the trader is left to take on even worse commodities in return
because
the "loser" tag tends to stick in this league.
I said in a post not two days ago that winning creates a winning
atmosphere.
The same is true in losing. It's cyclical and too often requires one
thing
(which this franchise has had basically none of for twenty years now)
LUCK
to break the cycle. I don't like hitching my wagon to luck.
I stick by my assertion that Foye should've been our pick as he's
another
Iverson in the making (tough as nails, gets to the rim at will, and is a
warrior). The Rondo pick - didn't really effect our future all that
much as
the Cleveland pick was going to be mid to high twenties next year
anyway.
One more mid-level big (Miller/Foster, Thomas et al - a
rebounder/defender)
via trade or FA and we're in the playoffs this year with a chance to
make
some noise.
