prototype game?

My fear is that the Celtics only do the small ball thing halfway. It
works for Phoenix because they commit to it 100 percent (plus they have
Nash and Marion, two truly unique players). They run off of everything,
all the time. They never allow teams to slow the pace and turn it into a
half-court game where size becomes an issue. Does anyone see Doc
committing to that kind of game fully? No way. He'll do it halfway, the
Celtics will get abused on the glass and defensively on the interior and
we'll scrap the approach and try to go big again with more minutes for
Scalabrine.

I'm frustrated just thinking about it.

Anyway, I don't think anyone has mentioned the article in the Herald on
the Pierce extension. It's a three-year extension. Seems like a great
deal for both sides. I wasn't looking forward to the last two years of a
five-year extension, when he'd be making $40 million and clearly
declining.

I'm ready to see the game. I hope we can duplicate the effort and focus
in one of the two remaining contests so the kids can generate some
enthusiasm for this style of play. If we're destined to play small ball
for extended periods, then we will have to maximize the defensive
approach. If this game is the proto, I like the type.

Been reading bits and pieces of other lists (which are usually a waste
of time). One guy had a depth chart with Allen as the #3 SG. At best,
that clarifies the glut we have on the wing. Although I would love to
see how Pierce and Wally work together with Telfair and Al, I realize
that a trade involving Wally is highly possible. With Wally in the
starting lineup we can shoot, but we are slower and less effective
defensively. I think we have to start Allen to create a defensive
climate. So what to do with Wally and Gomes and Green, not to mention
the possibility of zone-buster Allan Ray? Keep renting, Wally. It's a
great problem to have and a trade for a big guy makes sense, to say the
least. Don't you think that going into the season with question marks
surrounding Al, Ratliff, Powe is sort of chancy? I like those guys but
it could get real thin real quick. Enough. Gene
