I dont think this is the case at all.  Pierce handling the ball so much gums
up the offense - basically everyone else is there to get him shots and to a
much lesser extent Wally.  It means he isnt getting the ball in the best of
positions much of the time, leads to lots of turnovers cause he isnt a great
passer, and gums up the offense by not putting  the ball in the hands of
people paid to distribute it.
