Living in the past?

Several folks have mentioned that these songs sound dated because they 
remind us of Roger's solo albums in the eighties.  Is this a problem?  I'm 
thinking this is a current sound, so was Rogers sound back then ahead of 
it's time?  Are Roger and Pete now just taking an easy path and following 
the trend?  Should they be more innovative, or do these tracks sound right 
for the time?
