Anonymous OX, Plodding Pino, & Almost F*cked

I think the truth about Who fans at a concert knowing who Entwistle is
lies somewhere between Kevin's & Mc's opinions. I bet you'd be surprised
at how many people at a Who concert couldn't name Entwistle. But it's
probably not as many as Mc thinks; but more than Kevin might imagine.
Keep in mind: a lot of Rock fans are dolts. I've met dozens & dozens of
fans who claimed to be heavily into a certain group, & then upon further
conversation discovered they didn't know the most basic of information
about this group they professed to enjoy so much. Kinda sad.

Now,....Pino. I think how he played on the 2002 Who tour is just.......
how he plays! I don't think he laid back & purposefully tried to *not*
sound like Entwistle. He *can't* sound like Entwistle. He's not a fluid
bass player. He's a plunk & plodder. Quarter-notes & eighth-notes. Very
few fast sixteenth-note riffs.

Nearly every time he tried to attempt the bass solos in "My Generation" he
failed miserably (well, maybe not miserably, but he still had trouble). He
was trying to force his style into those solos & at the same time still
attempting to keep them sounding at least somewhat like John - but it didn't
work. It was like trying to force a square block into a round hole.

You & I had similar experiences, Mike. If the '82 tour would've truly been
the Farewell Tour then you & I would've been fucked. Yes, thank God Pete
changed his mind!
