With seemingly indifferent parents & constantly getting made fun of
because of his nose - one can imagine.

But he seems to have held on to a lot of positive memories, as well.
For example, during TOMMY on Broadway interviews, he often spoke 
positively about, as a child, accompanying his parents to their "gigs."
It gave him a sense of theater, performing, audience expectations, etc.
Invaluable training & experience for a future rock & roll star.
