Re: Healthcare (No Who) and Superheroes

>EXCELLENT job of debunking Mark's stereotypes of wealthy doctors, Kevin. I hope it sinks in.

Alan:

You mean they have to drive SUV's instead of Jags? $300k houses instead of $400k (please note: SC prices)? I have to wonder if it's the doctors who are losing jobs, or the people below them.

I repeat: there are medical centers and hospitals going up all over the place down here, and a general lack of all levels of healthcare. I think perhaps what has happened is a lot of it is shifting out of the more expensive parts of the country, like up where Kevin lives.

>OK, then I won't either; your need is not a peremptory claim on someone else's time or money.

And I'll repeat: when you take an oath, it changes the nature of your time and money. If they don't want to adhere to what they've taken an oath to do, they should do something else for a living.

>And I'm against them, FWIW. Private charitable organizations do a demonstrably better job of helping people become self-

Maybe in Texas...

>We've been through this before, and it's still the case that $20/bag ice is the strongest possible incentive for entrepreneurs

It's a great theory. Doesn't work in reality, though...that's why it's against the law.

>shortages just creates a "screw it, let the government handle

Well, it was the "small government" party who passed it...

>The only thing I can imagine you're talking about is the Hippocratic Oath, which says no such thing.

I'd say this is the relevent bit:

Whatever houses I may visit, I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all intentional injustice, of all mischief and in particular of sexual relations with both female and male persons, be they free or slaves.

Slaves would have no means, correct? And the part about "remaining free" says to me that it's universal, not tied to a political or sexual or racial (etc) agenda.

>forgo that last 6 months.

That might only work for Nostradamus. I still say, and you didn't address, the concept that universal health care leaves us with an overall healthier population and more work (therefore: money) for doctors anyway, because prevention would be the order of the day. If health care wasn't so ridiculously expensive per visit, more people would discover diseases earlier. More people would go, period.

>eddie is the worst of the worst.

Lew:

Ah, come on...worse than Eminem?

>Personally, while I am a Who fan and a Pete fan, I am also a Godman.

Jon:

And a new superhero is born...
