Re: Nuff said and Ottoims

>Sorry for the delay... first, let me say I'm shocked and somewhat horrified by the news (to me) below and I hope the best for you.

Alan:

Thanks; let me hasten to say there's no reason for you to be shocked or horrified. The cure is drastic, the disease isn't. At least, unless left untreated. My wife is currently taking the cure (will be for the next 6 months), and doing well so far. Now, as it turns out, there is SOME question as to whether or not I also have it (there is likely another, more innocent culprit). I'll know that soon. I've had no symptoms whatsoever at this point. Didn't mean to create a stir, sorry.

>Need is a funny word. Would you agree with me that people NEED shoes...that's it's practically impossible, in general, to do one's job and live one's life without shoes? What about cars,

I am not going to mince words; need is what you have to have to survive. There are shoes which are relatively cheap, if you need them then you can get used ones very cheap or free from a charity. A car you don't need, it just makes things easier.

>need cars? And yet, we don't have government-run programs

Food is a better example, and we do have government-run programs for that. Do people take advantage of it? Sure, people will take advantage of anything. That doesn't mean it's unneeded. It's important to keep in mind that good health affects not only the sick person but the people around him/her that can be infected. To quote Barney Fife, better to "nip it in the bud."

>cars to those who can't afford them. Is your entrepreneurial spirit to be indulged only if you choose to sell superfluous gewgaws

I do have a problem with people profiteering on needed items, yes. People sell ice here after a hurricane for $20 a bag, for instance.

>It's precisely because all of us DO need medical care that the chance is great for the large majority demeaning the rights of the minority who work in the medical profession.

Having lots of friends and/or customers in the medical profession, it's hard to see where they're hurting at all during this horrible economy we're currently in.

>And so it's a good thing that you have insurance.

Yeah...no deductable, $10 co-pay, and it's still cost several hundred for tests so far (likely to come to nothing, as it turns out). The total package for my wife is likely to be $50k.

>I'll still guess that you have a choice of more
than one doctor, so IF you were to run into someone so

No, it's actually been hard to find doctors who are in the HMO I'm involved with (Aetna) and each specialist has to be preapproved, and if there's one within 50 miles I have to travel. It sucks, except for the cost to me. Pain in the ass, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

>need is strong enough you have a claim on that doctor's time and expertise *regardless of the doctor's wishes*, and I disagree. A medical diploma is not a shipping label into slavery.

No, but they do take an oath which obligates them to help anyone. Again, show me a doctor who's suffering and I'll worry about this aspect more. This goes with the profession they chose, and greed should not negate it. Besides, if care costs less people would discover diseases earlier and spread them less. The doctors would get more work overall, make more money accordingly.

>What didn't used to be that way? medical care didn't used to cost a LOT,

Yes, a doctor used to make a nice living but didn't financially rape anyone. Now doctors are one of the two largest groups of investors (dentists being the other), that is to say the two groups with the most disposable income.

>into debt." (And BTW, trading all my money, going into debt, and losing a life-threatening condition, in exchange for health, doesn't sound like a bad deal. Luckily, that actual situation is pretty rare.)

I don't know if that's true...having an elderly parent-in-law it gets to the point where almost ANYTHING can be life-threatening...yet there's only so much money to use, you know?

>Cheers (and best of luck),

Thanks; I'm pretty tough and worst case I'm just going to miserable for 6 months, I can deal with it. I will deal with it.

>Camera fades up and pans left.

Otto:

Just a little heads up for you: brown shoes don't make it. I see you didn't get the song; well I should have expected that from you. I guess, if nothing else, I am guilty of going over your head.

>Look, if you're going to continue arguing with me

Arguing with you? I was talking to Kevin, then you insulted me, I laughed at you for showing yourself to be a hypocrite yet again, you went nuts (because you realized what you'd done). THAT is the chronology, chum. I guess you're too dim to realize that when you react like that, it proves your guilt. More than anything else, your "argument" is a almost word-for-word regurgitation of what I'd said to you in the previous EMail. Don't you even realize what you're doing? You give the term "no imagination" new meaning.

>Otto in Colorado (Ass-HOLE!)

Ah, honestly from you at last.

>PS - To my fellow listers: If you're new to the list, then you probablydon't realize that Mark and I don't play well together in

Oh, what a load of crap! Trying to rewrite history again, are you? Well, you aren't going to get away with it...what happens, and I invite anyone to check the archives for conformation, is I'll write something and you see red and attack me because you are scrutinizing my every word (despite telling others you skip my posts, yet another contridiction). This has happened time and time again. That's the only obsession at work here, and it's all yours.

>Just post a "cut it out" in

Yes, there's the expected "truce" proposal after you realize what an ass you've made of yourself but you can't seem to stick to later on! Pathetic is not strong enough a word to describe you. You said something to me about the Zeppelin list; I suggest YOU stick with your favorites, the Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Steve Miller lists. At least you can understand what their songs are all about. Hmmm...then again you seem more the Journey type...

>but don't expect the same from my adversary. He can't help himself.

Yes, and who started this exchange again? I can repost the "first strike" note if you like...you know, the one where you tried to worm your way out of the points you'd just made and then declared yourself a genius for being right...do you have short term memory problems? That would explain a lot...
