MEMBERS of a Hampstead club enjoyed an evening of pampering at a lifestyle
store to raise thousands of pounds for teenage cancer victims.
About 60 members of the Hampstead Womens Club attended an evening of beauty
at Aveda Lifestyle Store, in Marylebone High Street, last Wednesday.
Members paid for makeovers and massages and Aveda donated part of the cash
to the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT), an organisation that meets the medical
and emotional needs of young cancer victims.
More money was raised through a raffle and auction, with prizes on offer
including an oil painting by Michael Quirk, a wine decanter from the estate
of Sir John Gielgud and tickets to upcoming benefit concerts for the TCT at
the Royal Albert Hall, organised by its patron, Roger Daltrey.
Tickets for the concerts, which run from March 24 to 29 and star Coldplay,
Eric Clapton and Madness, fetched more than #2,500.
Club member Robin Kanarek said: It was just a magical night and we amassed
an amazing #16,500 for the TCT.
Mrs Kanarek, a nurse whose teenage son David died from cancer two years ago,
said TCT and Hampstead Womens Club had helped her put her life back
together after the death of her son.
They are just so loving and so giving, you develop friendships and people
are just amazing. You get so much love back and it has given me a sense of
purpose, she said.
TCT was founded 12 years ago to provided support and specialist care for the
one in 330 boys and one in 450 girls who develop cancer before they are 20.
