"To find you I'm gonna drown an unsung man." - Bargain

This one's always bothered me. Does this mean Pete is an unsung man, who's
going to drown, or that he's going to find an unsung man and drown him?
And, how does that help him find her anyway?

It means Pete's willing to drown -- unknown, anonymous, not famous, unsung (by the public) -- if that's what's required (for whatever reason) to find the "you" he seeks in the song. Keeping in mind that not everyone desires fame or public praise, it's still a bit daunting to think of dying with no one knowing or caring. And Pete had had his share of adulation, presumably enjoying it, by the time he wrote that song. So dying unsung would indeed be a high price for him to pay.
