My family's reaction

They haven't talked about it tonight, but the last two
nights my father and 16 year old brother in particular
were laughing about this and my mother along with
those two were telling me to calm down and stop
defending Pete.  So people who just hear the almighty
media's twisted version on things suddenly know my
favourite member of the band is a paedophile, without
giving any credence to the basic facts.  Even some
people on a music board I sometimes visit at aohell
weren't buying my explanations and saying that if he
stumbled upon it by accident, he wouldn't be using a
credit card (ignoring how I said this was after the
first time) and that everyone has an excuse, this is
just Pete's.  My father was saying that in Britain,
you can just say you're doing whatever for research
and be off the hook.  It makes me sick and angry that
these people (in particular my brother who doesn't
know a damn thing about the man before two days ago!)
just bought whatever they heard by the media.  My
father also thought he was letting me in on some news
like two months ago when the UK coroner confirmed the
US coroner's report that JAE had coke in his blood.  I
was like "We've known that for months."

My father said it doesn't mean anything that Pete is
against child porn and has written 'A Different Bomb'
and contributed to child abuse charities and has a 12
year old little boy, since he's probably boinking
little boys on the side.  My brother said he deserved
to be molested as a boy, and my mother doesn't
understand why he needed to look at porn sites for
research for an autobiography.  He's looking forward
to the jokes that will be on SNL on this subject. 
Then there's the usual 'Why are you defending him, you
don't know him, he's not your friend.'  We know this
stuff because we're fans and don't get all of our
misinformation from news sources.  My father was also
laughing about how JAE had had a heart attack and
calling him 'Mr. Dead Guy.'  He thinks people who are
emotionally attached to bands and who follow them for
decades and go to multiple shows on the same tour have
no lives.

Pete has been my favourite member of the band since 6
February 1994.  I felt a strong bond with him when I
read about his insecurities about his physical
appearance and fears about letting people see his
emotions for fear they'd use it to hurt him.  While I
didn't become a hardcore fan till fall of 2000, I
really think I would know by now if the sensitive soul
I felt such a bond with that longago day almost 9
whole years ago, at age 14, the day before I finally
caught the chicken pox, so much so I was moved to
tears, were a paedophile!
