If we are honest and if we look inside, we know that there *should* be some kind of a universal oneness. We don't see it. We do have these things in small parts, but there is always something that puts an end to them. There is a wall to smash through and Pete knows it. The oneness in the shows was just a place where Pete saw the temporary situation that I believe he wanted to solve for mankind in a much larger way. Not just in rock.
This hankering after oneness with the universe is the indication that Pete is a Modernist artist, rather than Postmodern. Postmodernists accept the fact that the world is fragmented and that it can't be put back together. However, I like the spiritual side of Pete's lyrics, and the fact that he's a seeker. It's a mistake to look for it in events. It's possible to experience it sometimes with other people, but as you say, this is always transitory. I think we always have to find oneness with creation inside ourselves.
