What is a "beer garden"........

Also, I asked this question to AEB, but he couldn't answer it.

I have AOL and they have a feature that you can download different 
celebrities voices to greet you when log on.  Well, I HAD to download the 
voice of Roger Daltrey.  It is so cool, because it sounds like he is standing 
right in front of me, naked.........er....sorry, that naked part isn't REALLY 
part of it, just my wishful thinking, lol.  Anyway, I need a translation. The 
first one is"Welcome" (it is said like it was in Tommy), when you have 
letters he tells me "My God you've got mail", but I need to know meaning of 
the last one.....when I log off, he tells me "Good-bye Old 
Bean"............"Old Bean" must be some British slang, but what is an "old 
bean".  I know I am not old or a bean...LOL..........is there anyone out 
there that can help me with this question that I have had for about 7 months 
now.
